Determination of Energy Absorption Capabilities of Shear Thickening Fluid Impregnated Aramid Fiber Fabrics for Ballistic Applications

Low velocity impact behavior of shear thickening fluid (STF) impregnated aramid fabric having different number layers had been investigating throughout this study to determine a relationship between and perforation energy. Firstly, STF solutions including polyethylene glycol, silica nanoparticles ethanol were prepared by mixing homogenizer. Solutions containing 20% weight used in study. Rheological analysis was performed observe solution. After critical rate determined from rheological analysis, solution into fabric. Then, specimens 1 8 for low experiments. A drop test applied at energy levels determined. Finally, curve fitting equation found use it potential absorption applications such as ballistic impact.
